Job application drive to be held
Event set for Friday at Marquette Commons
MARQUETTE — A job application drive for the Marquette area will be held Friday by the Marquette Downtown Development Authority in partnership with Upper Peninsula Michigan Works.
The event will be held at the Marquette Commons from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, with representatives from Upper Peninsula Michigan Works! available to assist job seekers with the application process.
“The application drive we are doing is with the Marquette Downtown Development Authority, they reached out to us and wanted to know if we could assist and put this on together,” said Seth Harris, communications coordinator with Upper Peninsula Michigan Works. “(It’s) an event where people can come and fill out a single application and apply to multiple businesses. It really streamlines the process.”
Tim Hyde, workforce manager for Upper Peninsula Michigan Works, described how the application process will work at the event.
“We have a general type application that job seekers can fill out,” he said. “On the last couple of pages on that application is the list of every employer who is participating in this and the list of all of the positions they are hiring for.”
Around 55 employers were signed up to participate in the event as of Tuesday, Hyde said.
Participating Marquette County employers can use this opportunity to seek applicants for a position without needing to take the time out to accept individual applications, though there are options for employer representatives to be available during the drive.
It’s also an opportunity for job seekers to learn more, organizers said.
“We will absolutely be there in the capacity also of providing our services to job seekers and talking to them about the opportunities and programs that we have here at Michigan Works.” said Hyde.
