No injuries in Champion Township fire

CHAMPION TOWNSHIP — No injuries were reported after a structure fire broke out in Champion Township early Monday morning.

At approximately 4:30 a.m., crews from the Champion Township Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to Bernie’s Auto and Marine along U.S. 41 for reports of a structure fire at the business. The scene was cleared around 10:30 a.m. and the building appears to be a total loss.

According to fire chief Chris Pelkola, the cause of the fire is unknown as of Tuesday afternoon.

Assisting Champion Township firefighters at the scene were Champion Township EMS, Michigamme/Spurr Fire Department, Michigamme/Spurr EMS, Republic Township Fire Department, Ishpeming Township Fire Department and Marquette County Search and Rescue Unit 131.
