Laurium man injured in Marquette Township motorcycle crash on U.S. 41 Sunday

MARQUETTE — A Laurium man was taken to the hospital with injuries after a single-motorcycle crash took place near U.S. 41 and Brickyard Road around 1:45 p.m. Sunday in Marquette Township.

The Laurium man was headed eastbound on the motorcycle into the roundabout on U.S. 41 at Brickyard Road when the motorcycle hit the curb, according to a news release from the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office. The man lost control of the bike and it came up on the second curb, where “the rider left the machine,” the release states.

The motorcycle, a full-sized Harley Davidson, continued on its side down the paved shoulder of the road for a short distance. The driver, who was the only occupant of the motorcycle, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, police said.

He was transported to the UP Health System-Marquette emergency room with scrapes to his arm, leg, head and possible broken bones, according to the release.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident but traffic was backed up on U.S. 41 for about an hour while the crash was investigated.

The sheriff’s office was assisted on the scene by the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, Marquette Township EMS, UPHS EMS, Marquette Detailing and witnesses.
