Dickinson County has first resident coronavirus case

KINGSFORD — Dickinson County has its first presumptive COVID-19 case in a person who lives in the county, according to the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department.

THE DIDHD was notified today by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services that an adult male had tested positive for the coronavirus. No other information on the person was released.

The DIDHD is contacting those identified as having been in close contact with the man.

The agency also urges the community to adhere to the “Stay Home, Stay Safe” and social distancing order put in place by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

While Dickinson County Healthcare System previously had reported two positive COVID-19 cases, both were from other counties: The first Thursday originated in Marinette County in Wisconsin, the second Tuesday was collected in Delta County.

The Upper Peninsula as of Wednesday afternoon had 15 positive cases and one death from COVID-19, all reported since March 22. Dickinson, Chippewa, Mackinac, Houghton and Luce counties each have one case; Gogebic two, including the death of an elderly male with underlying health conditions March 26; Delta County, three cases; and Marquette County, five cases.

Marinette County Public Health officials Tuesday announced a second confirmed case of COVID-19 but provided no other details.
