Authorities investigate possible murder in Harris Township

GLADSTONE — A homicide investigation is underway and a suspect is in custody on open murder charges after troopers from the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post found a man dead at a residence in Harris Township on Tuesday, according to Michigan State Police officials.

Troopers were dispatched to the Harris Township residence along old U.S. 2 and U.S. 41 near Eustace Road around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, where investigators found a man who “appeared to have died as a result of foul play,” police said in a press release.

The victim was identified this morning as Michael Donovan, 74, of Menominee County and a forensic autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of his death, officials said.

A male suspect is in custody at the Menominee County Jail on open murder charges and investigators “have no reason to believe there are any other suspects at large,” officials said in a press release.

The suspect’s name will not be released until arraignment in the 95th District Court of Menominee County, police said this morning.

Detectives and lab personnel from the MSP’s Marquette Crime Lab were on scene all night, police said.

There were also “additional scenes in the area processed for evidence only,” Sgt. Joe Racicot of the MSP Gladstone Post said this morning.

Racicot also advised: “There’s been several rumors posted on social media. Please be patient with law enforcement as they complete their investigation, more details will be released as they can be.”
