Ghosts of Lighthouse Point

At left, lighthouse keeper Mary Wheatleay, played by Monica McFawn, waits for her husband to return home at the Marquette Lighthouse. Below left, “the ghost” of assistant lighthouse keeper Adam B. Syles, played by Jim Berry, walks the halls of the building. According to Berry, Syles passed away from a heart attack just above the room pictured. Below right, a red light and an open door “invites” visitors to discover what is inside the Marquette Lighthouse. MARQUETTE– The public is invited to join museum staff — and a few ghostly spirits — for a haunted tour of the Marquette Maritime Museum and Lighthouse Point during their fundraiser titled The Ghosts of Lighthouse Point. The last tour is from 7-9 p.m. today. Tickets are $10 and participants can meet at the museum.

“Instead of it being a typical jump out and scare you haunted house, we have actual stations where you will walk out and meet people who are dressed as real characters from Lighthouse Point,” Hilary Billman, director of the Marquette Maritime Museum, explained.

Tour guides will be dressed as historical figures and tell participants stories based on real events and people associated with the lighthouse.

While there is something to enjoy for all ages on this tour, Billman warns against bringing small children.

“Parents should just think about how their kids react to things before they bring them,” Billman said.

All proceeds from this tour go to support operations of the museum. Reserve tickets by calling 906-226-2006 or emailing mqtmaritimemanager@gmail.com. Tickets also are available at the door.

Corey Kelly can be reached at 906-228-2500, ext. 243. Her email address is ckelly@miningjournal.net.
