Suspect in Munising High School threat confesses

MARQUETTE — On Wednesday, a 12-year-old female suspect confessed to writing two threats in the bathroom of the Munising High School, according to officials from the Munising City Police Department.

The first threat was reported to the MCPD at 1 p.m. Tuesday as a possible bomb threat, after it was found written on a wall in one of the bathrooms. Officers immediately responded, with school officials placing the school into “Secure Shelter Mode.”

Officers and school staff searched the building but found nothing suspicious, with the school resuming normal operation around 1:50 p.m.

However, at approximately 2:05 p.m., a second threat was discovered written on the wall of a different bathroom at the school. The school was placed into “Secure Shelter Mode” again after the incident.

On Wednesday, the suspect was identified and confessed to writing both of the threats.

A false threat or threat of a bomb or harmful device is a felony, carrying a maximum penalty of four years and/or a $2,000 fine. According to the MCPD, a report of the incident is being forwarded to the Alger County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Officials from MCPD were not available for further comment before press time.
