MARQUETTE — Super One Foods in Marquette Township will undergo a major remodeling, store officials confirmed this week.

Work on the business, located at 3070 U.S. 41, will start in early April and will likely run for 12 to 16 weeks, according to store Manager Ed Czenkus.

“The entire store will completely redone,” he said. “It will greatly enhance the shopping experience our customers have.”

The scope of work — publicly a dollar value has not been been announced — will include, among other things, new and expanded deli and produce sections, enlarged beer, wine and liquor areas including new coolers, new ceilings and flooring, expanded fresh food offerings along with a new decor and lighting.

Czenkus emphasized that the store will remain open for business during the remodeling work.

Owned by Miner’s Inc., of Duluth, Minnesota, the Marquette-area Super One was last remodeled in 1992. It employs about 95 people.

While the corporation is remodeling and improving the Marquette-area store, a different decision was made regarding the Super One Foods in Escanaba.

That store, which has operated since 1989, will close in May, idling about 75 workers.

Starting at $3.23/week.
