Kromer caps benefit Honor Flight

MARQUETTE – For a limited time, the sale of a special Stormy Kromer cap will benefit the Upper Peninsula Honor Flight.

Starting today and continuing for six weeks, Stormy Kromer U.P. Honor Flight hats can be ordered through the Stormy Kromer website at www.stormykromer.com. A portion of the proceeds will go to the Honor Flight to help with its mission to take World War II and Korean veterans from all parts of the Upper Peninsula to Washington, D.C., to visit the monuments created in their honor as well as other landmarks.

World War II and Korean veterans make the trip at no cost to them, but must fill out an application to take part in this journey of a lifetime. The group’s website states: “Our mission is to fly Upper Peninsula World War II and Korean veterans to see the Memorials that stand in their honor. This ‘Tour of Honor’ is FREE to the veteran. Airfare, meals, deluxe tour bus, T-shirt and other items are provided at no cost to the veteran.”

Nearly 800 veterans have traveled to Washington, D.C. so far through U.P. Honor Flight. Each veteran is accompanied by a guardian, a person who pays $500 to travel with the flight and to take care of all the needs of the veteran he or she is assigned to spend the day with.

The next U.P. Honor Flight is scheduled to leave Delta County Airport in Escanaba the morning of May 25.

For more information on the program – including applications for veterans and guardians – visit uphonorflight.org; call 906-280-2871; or write to 7480 J Road, Gladstone, MI 49837.

Starting at $3.23/week.
