Meditate Marquette

Tuesdays Oct. 4, 11, 18, 25. 5:30 – 7 p.m. Peter White Public Library Lion’s Room. Meditate Marquette and PWPL have joined together to provide a weekly in-person mindfulness meditation program. Instructional sessions will be held from 5:30-5:50pm for those who would like to learn how to meditate, have questions about meditation, or need guidance on their practice. Starting at 6:00pm the host will lead the group through one or more guided meditations, walking meditation, or invite everyone to sit in mindful stillness. Sierra Club: Man-Tracking 101

Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 7 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Peter White Public Library Community Room. Teens, Family, Adults, Seniors. If you’ve ever wondered how elite special forces soldiers hunt down terrorists or search-and-rescue personnel track down missing persons, Michigan Sierra Club Wilderness Guide Michael Neiger will explain how they do it. You’ll learn enough to practice tracking others on your own, including how to use a tracking stick and a tracking card, and how to better visualize tracks using both sunlight and artificial light. Michael Neiger is the founder and lead investigator with Michigan Backcountry Search and Rescue (MibSAR), a Long Range Special Operations Group (LRSOG) that investigates long-term-missing cases and cold-case homicides in the bush between the Upper Great Lakes and the Arctic Ocean in Canada. Global Geeks Book Club

Holocaust: Band of Brothers Screening and Presentation

As part of the American Library Association’s traveling exhibit Americans and the Holocaust being hosted at NMU, PWPL teams up with NMU to screen an episode of the miniseries Band of Brothers depicting the liberation of a Nazi Concentration Camp. Following the screening, presenter Janeen Rastall will share her father’s (Colonel David E. Pergrin) memories on the liberation of the concentration camp, Dachau, while the 291st was attached to the 99th Infantry Division. She will discuss this event’s lasting effect on his life.
