8-18 Media: Life with Jack

Indie Pomeroy, 9

Hi, my name is Indie. I’m 9- years- old and I am going to tell you about a living fluff ball a.k.a. my dog, Jack. If you want to know what he looks like, just picture the perfect marshmallow. My mom rescued him from a hoarding situation. When we first got him he was all knotted and stank as heck. At first, Jack was really shy but seemed to get more comfortable when we got treats. He wouldn’t go near me so I decided to make a treat trail towards me, but when he got to my hand he went for the treat bag. Another memorable moment is when he pounced on me for the first time. If you want to know how that happened, it was when I was eating chips on the couch, and well he wanted one. It startled me so much I practically threw the bowl across the room.

Jack is 3 -years- old and has been living with us for about 2 years. He sleeps with my mom, but he comes into my room and wakes me up by pouncing on my bed and sometimes my face. I’m pretty sure he thinks I’m a snack because he keeps trying to eat my fingers.

He has a basket full of toys that he never plays with. They are actually kinda cute. One of them is a small lamb, and there are a couple of cute monster toys and a tug of war rope. Speaking of his toys, I actually have a ball in my purse that I thought I should give him, but decided to keep it for myself as a stress ball.

Jack loves walks but hates getting his leash on. My mom has to walk him because she thinks I might drop the leash. Also, if you are asked to puppy sit for us, do not let Jack off the leash when you’re on a walk because he will run away. It’s a good idea to keep him away from the cat food. I’m serious he will demolish it. He doesn’t know how to do tricks like roll over, sit or play dead but he does know how to “be cute,” which is just him being… well him.

I’ve always wanted a dog. I thought it would be a big dog and it would sleep in my room and I would be responsible for everything: except maybe the dog poop. Jack is a small dog, and I’m not responsible for anything other than for providing thumbs and fingers for him to chew on and I am responsible for the dog poop sometimes, which is a bummer, but Jack is a great fit for me and my family.
