MARQUETTE — Ron and Iris Katers are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, June 13.

Ron Katers and Iris (Gilson) Katers exchanged wedding vows Saturday, June 13, 1970, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Ron is an active business owner based in west Ishpeming, founding and running a number of retail pharmacies around the Upper Peninsula (Snyder Drug, LT Pharmacare, and others). Iris is a retired teacher with Marquette Area Public Schools.

Originally from Green Bay, Ron and Iris came to Marquette to open the (now closed) Shopko store in Marquette in the 1970s. Ron left Shopko to start his own company, and they made Marquette their home.

Ron and Iris enjoy their work and their volunteer service with local boards, community groups, and the Catholic Church. They also enjoy spending time with family, which is how they plan to celebrate their 50th anniversary. Ron and Iris have two children, Laura (Patrick) Reilly of Marquette and John (Jessica) Katers of Livonia, and four grandchildren.
