Virtual beekeeping classes offered

MARQUETTE — For anyone interested in learning more about keeping bees, Bixby’s Beginning Beekeeping will offer a virtual class through Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Sarah Bixby will help participants get started with this two-part virtual class hosted by the Peter White Public Library from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday and June 2 via Zoom.

In part 1, Bixby will talk about the equipment needed, how to set up, and give a look inside the beehive. In part 2, she will do a little review, talk about DIY research, and take another look inside the hive along with a slideshow presentation.

There will be time for questions in both presentations.

Bixby has been a teacher for more than two decades in Marquette, Chicago, Flagstaff and Kayenta, Arizona, Slovenia, and Central America, but feels that she has spent considerably more time learning than teaching. She said: “Teachers love to learn! Our bees are turning out to be exceptionally effective teachers.”
