Dance Zone square dance lessons
MARQUETTE — Dance Zone will offer a six-week review/relearn square dancing class beginning today.
This class is intended for those who have some Modern Western Square Dancing experience, but have not been dancing recently.
The class will run on Mondays, 6-7:30 p.m. Jan. 20-Feb. 24. The total cost for the class is $15 per person. Students will be encouraged to stay and dance with the more experienced dancers after each lesson. Refreshments are always served. The class is offered at Dance Zone, 1113 Lincoln Ave., Marquette. Bring shoes with clean, low-tread soles to avoid injury to knees.

MAPS school of choice openings
MARQUETTE — In accordance with Section 105 Schools of Choice in Public Act 300, Marquette Area Public Schools announces 9-12th grade openings for the second semester 2019-20 as follows:
≤ Marquette Alternative High School openings in 9th-12th
≤ Marquette Senior High School openings in 9th-12th
Applications may be obtained at any of the above school buildings or at the MAPS website at www.mapsnet.org. Applications will be accepted through Friday.
Enrollment deadline for students admitted is Jan. 31.
Coffee house music at PWPL
MARQUETTE — Have the winter blues? Warm yourself up with coffee, music and treats at Coffee House Music featuring Dylan McKenzie-Trost & His String Bandits at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Peter White Library’s Community Room on the lower level.
Dylan McKenzie-Trost & His String Bandits are a Marquette based country/folk band, playing original songs as well as covers. Dylan, on acoustic guitar and vocals, is accompanied by Gretchen McKenzie-Trost on upright bass and vocals, Matt Mitchell on violin and vocals, and Devyn Trost on drums.

Winter memorial at Jacobetti
MARQUETTE — Lake Superior Life Care and Hospice’s Winter Memorial Service will be at the DJ Jacobetti Home for Vets Chapel, 425 Fisher St., Marquette at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

North vs. South Marquette set
MARQUETTE — Jim Koski and Jack Deo take on North vs. South Marquette from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette.
Jim and Jack will bring the audience back in time to see photos and hear stories about South Marquette and North Marquette. Some say it was a rivalry that may have caused a scuffle or two. Many do not agree where the official boundary lies. Everyone agrees these neighborhoods were about family and friends and a sense of community.
Those attending will see photographs from the Superior View and Longyear Library collections.
