GLRC workshop to start

MARQUETTE — Great Lakes Recovery Centers presents Guiding Good Choices, a free five-part workshop (once per week) for families of children ages 9-14.

The workshop features a prevention specialist with GLRC teaching a program that seeks to promote healthy youth development and to prevent teen alcohol, tobacco and other drug use by helping parents gain skills to:

≤ Build family bonds

≤ Establish and reinforce clear and consistent guidelines and expectations for behavior

≤ Teach children skills to resist peer influence

≤ Improve family management practice

≤ Reduce family conflict

≤ Guiding Good Choices is a evidence-based program with documented research and has been proven to be effective. Research has shown that when children are bonded to their parents/caregivers, school and non-drug-using peers, they are less likely to get involved in drug use or other behavior problems.

The next session will be Jan. 14, 21, and 28 and Feb. 4 and 11. Classes will be held at the SC3 Office, 601 E. Lakeshore Drive, Suite 101, Manistique, (behind Big Boy).

To get involved and help strengthen family bonds, contact Jennifer Levins at 906-286-0159.
