Holiday bazaar, quilt sale Saturday

SKANDIA — A holiday bazaar and quilt sale is planned from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. Saturday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 9812 U.S. 41, Skandia.

The event will include homemade soup and sandwich lunch, fresh and decorative wreaths, handmade crafts and quilts, cardamom bread, baked goods, jams and jellies and a raffle.

Meet The Authors event to be held

MARQUETTE — A Meet The Authors book signing is planned from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at UPtown Gifts, 702 Chippewa Square, Marquette.

The authors scheduled to attend are Karl Bohnak, Bill Blewett, B.G. Bradley and Gretchen Preston.

Coffee and light snacks will be available.

Fair trade market held Saturday

MARQUETTE — Messiah Lutheran Church’s Global Fair Trade Market which will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The event will featire fairly traded items and goods for sale from SERRV International, Sharing the Dream in Guatemala, items brought from Messiah’s companion congregation in Bogota, Colombia, as well as goods from Tanzania. There also will be a bake sale again this year to raise funds for shipping of the goods.

‘A Taste of Scandinavia’ bazaar

ISHPEMING — The Laestadian Lutheran Church of Ishpeming will have its annual Christmas Bazaar, “A Taste of Scandinavia,” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

Cardamom and homemade breads, prune tarts, baked goods and crafts will be for sale. The luncheon includes homemade wild rice soup and freshly baked pies.

The church is located at 567 Washington St., Ishpeming, in the Industrial Park.

Concert held at Kaufman Saturday

MARQUETTE — Various local pianists will present a concert at Kaufman Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The concert will be a fundraiser for the Kaufman piano restoration and will feature pianists Jan Brodersen, Robert Buchkoe, Lynne Lanczy, Nancy Railey, and Nancy Zimmerman, along with Erika Waite and dancers and Connie Weiner violinist.

The piano was originally chosen for financier Louis Kaufman by famed composer George Gershwin. There will be music by Gershwin, Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Shostakovich.

There is no admission charge, but a suggested donation of $20 for adults and $5 for students. For more information call 226-9617.

Afternoon of Music event planned

SUOMI — An Afternoon of Music is planned at 3 p.m. Sunday at Community Lutheran Church of Suomi Location, 3 miles south of Palmer.

Performers will include Strictly Gospel, Wil Kilpela on accordion, Mike Wickstrom, Robert Veale, Linda Hurrell, Kim Lenten, Pastor Doug Norquist and other musical guests.

A freewill offering will be taken with proceeds to go toward the Community Lutheran Heating Fund.

Coffee and fellowship will follow the music.
