Symphonies to perform together

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Symphony Orchestra has invited the Marquette Senior High School Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony for a side-by-side performance for the first time. The students will join the MSO for Finlandia by Sibelius and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis. The MSO will also play Franck’s Symphony in D minor.

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Kaufman Auditorium. Tickets are on sale at NMU ticket outlets and at tickets.nmu.edu.

According to a press release, The Marquette Symphony Orchestra extends its most profound thanks to the Kaufman Foundation for supporting free children’s tickets for the orchestra’s 2019-2020 concerts.

Anyone who buys an adult ticket to a regular MSO concert can get up to two free children’s tickets for ages 6-14. This offer is available in advance at the NMU Ticket Office and at the Kaufman Auditorium door on concert night, when tickets are still available.

Octavio Mas-Arocas, the MSO’s principal conductor, will lead the combined ensembles. The MSHS Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Eric Marta, and the MSHS Wind Symphony is conducted by Matt Ludwig. Both teachers are members of the orchestra.
