Oman Creek boating access to be discussed

IRONWOOD — A public meeting will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. CDT Thursday in the Lindquist Center at Gogebic Community College, at E-4946 Jackson Road in Ironwood, to solicit feedback on the proposed design and funding options for Oman Creek boating access site, located on Lake Superior at Little Girls Point in Gogebic County.

As part of a site improvement project to enhance public access and better control shoreline erosion, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources has developed a $170,000 design to guide the building of a structure (groin) that will help interrupt the movement of shoreline sediments and, ultimately, reduce the frequency of dredging necessary to keep the boating access site available to the public.

The boating access site, which provides a convenient way for boaters to access Lake Superior, has a history of erosion, sedimentation and storm damage due to wave action in that location.

At the meeting, there will be a short presentation by DNR personnel, followed by the collection of feedback during a public comment period.
