Imposter syndrome to be discussed

MARQUETTE — Identifying and overcoming imposter syndrome, the inability to internalize and accept ones success, will be the topic of the next Psychological Science Colloquium at Northern Michigan University.

The presentation will begin at 3 p.m. Friday in room 2904 of the West Science Building.

Sarah Santiago, a mental health specialist at Bloom Counseling and Wellness, will discuss the intricacies of imposter syndrome and how to combat it. Those affected may feel they don’t deserve all the success they’ve achieved, that they’re frauds who have tricked everyone into thinking they’re capable and that their success is attributed to luck or timing rather than their abilities.

The presentation will address the history, prevalence, symptoms and strategies for working through imposter syndrome.
