Klava Klub to meet at The Crib

MARQUETTE — At 6:30 p.m. Aug. 21, the Peter White Public Library will host a meeting of its science fiction book group, Klava Klub, at The Crib, located at 401 N. Third St., Marquette.

For this meeting, the group will discuss C.J. Cherryh’s novel “Foreigner.” In this first in a continuing series, which now has 20 books, the starship Phoenix experiences an emergency in which they lose their position in space. Not knowing how to get back to Earth, they go into survival mode, building a station around an alien planet. Some of the space farers eventually leave with Phoenix to explore, some stay on the station, while others risk colonizing an already inhabited planet. Hundreds of years later, people are now exiled to a single island with only one person, the paidhi-aiji, allowed to communicate with the Atevi people.
