Lake Superior Day — was started in Thunder Bay in the early 1990s to celebrate the body of water that dominates and defines our region.

The Marquette Maritime Museum is celebrating Lake Superior Day from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with fun and educational booths and activities for families to learn about conservation and Lake Superior. Participants include the Maritime Museum, Superior Watershed Partnership and the Great Lakes Conservation Corps, The Nature Conservancy, Northern Michigan University’s Northern Climate Network, and the Fish and Wildlife Conservation’s Marquette Biological Station. There will be fun activities for kids, information on sea lamprey, climate change, and conservation ideas, and a Lake Superior watershed model. Hike — North Country Trail Hikers Chapter of the North Country Trail Association will host a hike on the North Country National Scenic Trail from the MDOT Welcome Center in Harvey to the old railroad tressle over M-28 beginning at 1 p.m. The group will hike to the viaduct then turn around and return for a round trip hike of approximately 4.6 miles.
