Negaunee City Band to perform

MARQUETTE — Director Brandon Nelson has chosen to celebrate the upcoming Italian Fest with this week’s Negaunee City Band concert, which will be at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.

A highlight will be “Italian Holiday,” a medley including “Funiculi, Funicula,” “Come Back to Sorrento” and “Wedding Tarantella,” as well as several arias from Italian operas. Also on the program is “Italian Festival” by Munising-born arranger Glenn Osser.

Also featured are works by several local residents, “Peninsula March” by the late Eino Olander, well-known musician and composer from Marquette and a longtime fan of the band, as well as “Snowshow Priest Saga” composed by Director Brandon Nelson.

The band will play Leroy Anderson’s “Serenata” and “Again We Rise,” a lyric work that leaves listeners with a strong sense of hope and promise. There will be a nod to the 1980s with “The Best of Journey,” a medley of “Don’t Stop Believin'” “Separate Ways (Worlds Apart),” “Open Arms” and “Any Way You Want It.”

“March and Procession of Bacchus” is featured early in the program, while the final march will be Sousa’s “Daughters of Texas.”

As always, the concert will conclude with “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
