Negaunee City Band to perform

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee City Band announces the program for its free concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.

A special number this week is the jazz standard, “Lullaby of Birdland,” featuring David Perry on trumpet.

Director Brandon Nelson has chosen several marches, including his own composition, “Glory of the North Country,” “Block M” and Sousa’s “Hands Across the Sea.”

Two more formal numbers are the baroque sound of Bach’s “Fantasia in C Major” as well as “Toccata for Band.” “Forever Climbing” was written as a tribute to a high school band student.

The band will play John Williams’ “Out of This World,” featuring memorable themes from some of his most famous movie soundtracks, “Duel of the Fates,” “Theme from E.T.,” “Space Camp Main Theme” and “Star Wars.”

Another medley based on popular culture is “Game of Thrones,” which includes the main title theme song as well as “The Rains of Castamere” and “The Winds of Winter.” The concert will conclude with the traditional “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
