NMU to host colloquium

MARQUETTE — Repeated exposure to threatening situations, such as those in police use-of-force simulations, may alter the threat perception of participants.

This will be the topic of the next Psychological Science Colloquium at Northern Michigan University, which will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Weston Hall (NSF) 1302.

The event is free and open to the public.

Master’s degree candidate Ellyse VanDyke will be covering the topic at the event, as she recently conducted a study which suggests that repeated exposure to the use-of-force training simulation decreases participants’ perception of threat, manifested by an overall decrease in emotional response.

For more information, call the Department of Psychological Science at 227-2935.

Rotating art exhibit expected

MARQUETTE — Travel Marquette invites everyone to visit “Artventure,” a rotating art exhibit inside the downtown office space located at 117 W. Washington St., namely the Kaufman Building, next to Flagstar Bank.

For the summer months of July and August, “Artventure — Home” will feature locally handmade furniture pieces, lamps, mirrors and more. Available space will accommodate large items such as a bed, futon, table, dresser, and smaller pieces like end tables, lamps, stools, mirrors and shelving. Come and explore what local artists are making for “Home” and for people to enjoy for years to come.

Its office open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays, Travel Marquette encourages local artists to apply for the opportunity to display their work on a monthly basis.
