MARQUETTE — Dennis Hruska ignored cold, rainy conditions at the Marquette Golf and Country Club Tuesday afternoon to capture medalist honors for Marquette Senior High School in a boys’ prep dual golf match against Menominee. The senior carded a nine-hole score of 40 to lead coach Jim Acocks’ Redmen to a season opening win over the Maroons 175-197. Ken Pelto added a 44 for MSHS. In the girls’ match, the Redettes dropped a 218-249 decision to Menominee despite a 54 by Jennifer Holland. Kristen Anderla paced the winners with a 51. “Holland had an excellent day – one bad hole cost her medalist honors,” Acocks said. “While there’s room for improvement, I feel we’re moving in the right direction.”

MARQUETTE — Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Los Angeles will have nothing on Marquette’s new chamber of commerce building when it is completed this summer. Featured in the cement walk to the chamber building here will be footprints, handprints and autographs of 10 movie stars currently in the filming of “Anatomy of a Murder” here. Also noted in the cement blocks will be footprints of Justice John D. Voelker, author of the best-selling book, and producer-director Otto Preminger. Stars include James Stewart, Lee Remick, Eve Arden, Brooks West, Ben Gazzara, George Scott, Kathryn Grant, Murray Hamilton, Arthur O’Connell and Attorney Joseph N. Welch. Ben E. Knauss, secretary-manager of the chamber, said the blocks will be used in the walk at the new chamber building in Lakeside Park, which is scheduled for ground-breaking early next week.
