Auditions for ‘Seussical’ starting

CURTIS — Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis announces open auditions for “Seussical.”

The first will be in the Newberry High School Auditorium from 6-8 tonight. Enter through the front door of the high school. Another will be at the Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.

Callbacks (if needed) will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Erickson Center.

There are roles for all ages and producers are looking for cast members ages 6 and up.

Everyone auditioning must be prepared to sing and move. Only those auditioning for a main character will be asked to read. Auditioners must bring sheet music to sing with (please no tracks.). An accompanist will be provided.

A tentative rehearsal schedule will be available at auditions. Be prepared to list all conflicts you may have with rehearsals. Anyone interested in helping with sound/lights, sets, props, costumes, etc. is welcome at auditions as well to get plugged into the show.

The first read-through will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at the Erickson Center. Performance dates are June 27, 28, 29 and 30

Recording artists to perform

MARQUETTE — St. Peter Cathedral is hosting a very special concert and reflection on “Tell All Souls About My Mercy” offered by internationally known Catholic recording artists, Donna Cori Gibson.

Accordding to a press release, “her voice is astounding and her music of very high caliber. Her concerts inspire listeners with a great yearning to draw closer to God and to receive His Mercy.”

In celebration of “Divine Mercy Sunday” the public is invited to experience a concert you will always remember with a dynamic performer, spiritually uplifting music, scripture, stories and prayer.

The “Divine Mercy” concert is at 1:25 p.m. April 28 at St. Peter Cathedral, 311 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette. Following the celebration there will be refreshments and fellowship. Preview and get free music downloads at www.DonnaCoriGibson.com

The celebration begins at 1:25 p.m. with a rosary lead by Knights of Columbus, Confessions, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Then from 2-2:50 p.m. will be the message and concert by Donna Cori. From 3-4 p.m. will be a service Including:

Chaplet of Divine Mercy sung by Donna Cori Gibson, Reflection by Donna Cori Gibson and Benediction, and Veneration of the 1st Class Relic of St. Faustina.

Erickson Center to host program

CURTIS — “Boogie, Beehives & Beyond!” is planned at the Erickson Center for the Arts in Curtis from 7-9 p.m. July 20.

Easter egg hunt in Chocolay

HARVEY — The Chocolay Lions annual Easter Egg Hunt will be at the Silver Creek Church, 219 Silver Creek Road, Harvey, from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday.

The Easter Bunny will cut the ribbon at 11:15 a.m. Refreshments will be served before and during the event. Twelve specially marked Lions Golden Eggs will be out in the field. They can be redeemed for special prizes like bikes, scooters, fishing poles and others.

It’s recommended adults bring their cameras to take pictures of kids with the Easter Bunny. This event is sponsored by the Chocolay Township Lions Club and the Silver Creek Church.

MAPS kindergarten registration set

MARQUETTE — Kindergarten registration for the 2019-2020 school year will be offered by Marquette Area Public Schools on April 24.

The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at MAPS Superintendent’s Office, 1201 W. Fair Ave. Parents are asked to bring the child’s certified birth certificate, immunization record and proof of residency. Children do not need to be present to register.

A kindergarten screening appointment for each child will be scheduled. Screenings will be held April 29 through May 3.

Marquette City Band to perform

MARQUETTE — A Marquette City Band Concert: “Dramatic Inspiration” is set for 7:30-8:30 p.m. April 25 at Kaufman Auditorium.

All members of the public are invited to come and be inspired at this free Marquette City Band spring concert at the beautiful Kaufman Auditorium.

Some of the pieces are as follows: “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Freddie Mercury, “The Sword of Titan” by Rossano Galante, “La Forza del Destino” by Giuseppe Verdi and “American Salute” by Morton Gould. It will be a beautiful concert, with inspirational music for all.

Genealogy lock-in planned

MARQUETTE — Register now for the Spring Genealogy Lock-In at 6:30 p.m. April 26 in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Public Library.

Those interested in researching family history and who have attended a beginning or intermediate genealogy workshop are welcome to attend.

Space is limited. The workshop will begin with a keynote session on “Researching Finnish Ancestors” presented by Eric Anderson and Susan Anderson, genealogists with the Marquette County Genealogical Society. The second session will feature online resources for Finnish research.
