Banner Design Contest entries

MUNISING –The Munising Downtown Development Authority once again announces the Munising DDA Downtown Banner Design Contest, an art contest designed to help beautify Munising’s downtown district.

Individuals are encouraged to submit banner designs they feel would make the downtown district more welcoming and attractive to residents and visitors.

The winners of the contest will have his or her banner displayed on Highway M28/Munising Avenue, Munising and will receive cash prizes of $300, $200 and $100.

The theme for this year’s contest is “Munising’s Great Outdoors.”

Contest rules and regulations:

≤ Eligibility: Residents of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula of any age are welcome to participate.

≤ Judging Criteria: Subject matter can be anything that has to do with the Munising’s great outdoors. It may depict an outdoor activity such as hiking, fishing, or kayaking, or skiing. It might be a painting of wildlife or beautiful scenery.

≤ Design will be in full color. All artwork should be original. The artwork should fit into a 30-inch by 80-inch space.

≤ Jury: The jury for the contest will consist of local artists, city representatives and community members.

≤ Submission deadline: April 5

Other submission requirements: To participate, artists can submit their designs to Kathy Reynolds, Munising DDA Executive Director at kathy@algercountychamber.com or submit a hard copy to the Munising DDA, 129 E. Munising Avenue, Munising, MI 49862. Lines and images should be sharp to make it easiest to digitalize.

Once the winners are announced the chamber office will take care of digitalizing the artwork. If emailed in a digital format, contest designs can be submitted as a vector file and must be created with the intention of fitting 30-inch by 80-inch banners. All emailed submissions will receive a confirmation email. If an entrant does not receive one, contact the office.

≤ Winner notification: The winners will be contacted by April 19.

≤ Design rights: The Munising Downtown Development Authority reserves the right to property and use all designs submitted without restrictions or limitations in terms of use, reproduction and publication.

‘Piefecta’ event to be held Sunday

MARQUETTE — The Superiorland Bridge Club invites the public to join them for their first time ever “Pie-fecta,” defined as an opportunity to learn about the game of bridge while enjoying homemade pie and coffee (tea).

This event will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Superiorland Bridge Club’s space in the Westwood Mall in Marquette.

NAMI holds support group Feb. 11

MARQUETTE — The National Alliance on Mental Illness-Alger/Marquette offers free, confidential peer support groups and educational meetings for individuals living with mental illness, and friends or families living with an individual with mental illness.

A support group will gather at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11 in the Baraga Place Conference Room, 129 W. Baraga Ave., Marquette. For more information call 906-360-7107, or visit www.namiam.org. In case of bad weather, if Northern Michigan University cancels evening classes, the NAMI meeting will also be canceled.
