Genealogical society to meet

MARQUETTE — The Marquette County Genealogical Society will be meeting at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Shiras Room of the Peter White Library.

The public is welcome.

PWPL to host knitting guild

MARQUETTE — UP North Knitting Guild will meet from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in the Peter White Public Library lower level in Studio 2.

Thursday’s meeting will be a Winter Feast it’s party time. Bring a snack, small salad or something sweet and your own beverage. Utensils and plates will be provided.

There will be a small meeting talking about the guild’s community project.

Also bring any items received as a gift for show and tell as well as present knitting.

New members can still join the guild at this time.

Library’s ‘What’s important’ set

MARQUETTE — Kids age 7 and up accompanied by a parent, grandparent and/or other close family and friends are invited to register for “What’s Important to You?” — a chance to share stories and make a storybook — at Peter White Public Library from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Jan. 23.

Space is limited to those wishing to participate are encouraged to register ASAP. Call PWPL Youth Services at 906-226-4323 to register.

The event will have kids making a storybook with the help of their loved ones. Kids are encouraged to use creativity to be the author and illustrator of their own story, which they will get to take home.

It’s a chance to share stories about what’s meaningful to each person. It’s a chance to grown and learn while having fun with all generations.

Legion fish fry Friday

MARQUETTE — American Legion Post 44, 700 W. Bluff St., Marquette. will have fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Friday .

Whitefish or shrimp is available for $11 while chicken strips are $9. All meals come with choice of baked potato or french fries. Salad bar is included with all meals.

This meal is open to the public.

The Legion Auxiliary will be having a bake sale during the fish fry.

Scouts seek staff for camp season

MARQUETTE — Bay Lakes Boy Scout Council is seeking camp staff for its 2019 summer camp season.

Bay Lakes Council Camps hire over 150 enthusiastic camp counselors annually to serve over 4,000 campers at its four camp facilities: Camp Hiawatha near Munising, Bear Paw Scouts BSA Camp, Gardner Dam Webelos Camp, and Rokilio Cub Scout World.

The vouncil is headquartered in Appleton and supports the programs of the Boy Scouts of America in Northeast Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Anyone interested may visit the website below to apply. Camp Staff interviews will be occurring Saturday, as well as Jan. 26 and Feb. 2. Interviews are scheduled after an application has been submitted.

VFW to host chili fundraiser

NEGAUNEE — The VFW Post 3165 in Negaunee will host a chili dinner fundraiser from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Saturday.

The post is located at 208 Gold St., Negaunee, and the cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 years old.

The meal includes homemade meat chili, tossed salad, cheese sticks, crackers, a beverage and dessert.
