‘View from the Upper Deck’ event

MARQUETTE — The Peter White Public Library invites the public to the book release of “View from the Upper Deck” by Paula VanderMey.

The event will be at 6 p.m. Monday in the library’s Heritage Room.

Paula VanderMey is a local Michigan author. Born in Rockford, she graduated from Grand Valley State University with a BS in Language Arts and Elementary Education as well as English. She taught in Sparta before moving to the Upper Peninsula where she teaches Tai Chi and writes.

“View from the Upper Deck” is VanderMey’s 10th book, a collection of essays and poems about her life in the Upper Peninsula — the joys, dangers, and just plain fun of being here. Some of the poems are very personal; two are to departed loved ones and the others are fun.

VanderMey’s other books include “Tai Chi for Fun and Fitness” and the Kaibab series, historical fiction set in the 1700s and 1800s when people were moving to settle the west. Her first book, “Goblin Valley,” is a fantasy set in southeastern Utah.

After VanderMey’s presentation there will be an opportunity to purchase her books and have them signed. There is no admission charge to attend. For more information, visit www.pwpl.info or call 226-4318.
