Legion officer — American Legion Department Service Officer Lisa Clark will be in Marquette from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at American Legion Post 44, 700 W. Bluff St. She is available to assist all veterans and families of veterans with claim preparation, presentation, counsel and appeal counsel at no cost to the veterans. Anyone who believeshe/she may be eligible for VA compensation on health, education and/or employment issues, stop by Post 44 and see Clark.

Open house — 1-3 p.m., the Midwest Skills Development Center will be hosting an Open House for the Electrical Line Technician Program. Anyone interested is invited to tour the facility, watch pole climbing demonstrations, receive enrollment and admissions information, and meet current and past students, instructors, and educational and industry partners. Sauerkraut — Returning is the well known Sauerkraut Supper (formerly Grace United Methodist Church’s event) now hosted by The New Free Store and Marquette Lions Club. Dinner includes roasted pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes/gravy, and a variety of trimmings. Fringe Festival — Northern Michigan University’s Forest Roberts Theatre will present “Fringe Festival: Fighting for the Arts.” Each production is a collection of theater, music and dance pieces performed, directed and choreographed by NMU students. 7:30 p.m. in the James A. Panowski Black Box Theatre. Tickets are $15 for the general public, $10 for high school students, and $5 for NMU students.

Writers — Poet Aimee Nezhukumatathil and author Dustin Parsons will read from their works and answer questions during a joint presentation at Northern Michigan University. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in Jamrich Hall 1318. It is hosted by the NMU Visiting Writers Program and admission is free.

SMART Recovery — is an abstinence based recovery group that meets at 7:30 p.m. at 102 W. Washington St. Suite 114, Marquette. The program is based on scientific knowledge and reason. Spirituality, religion and higher powers are not part of the program. SMART Recovery is a program for all kinds of addictive behaviors.
