Grief program at Messiah Lutheran

MARQUETTE — Messiah Lutheran Church is hosting a six-week Grief Program addressing the acknowledgement, processing, and understanding of the personal grief experience.

Participants will be encouraged to share their stories and become aware of their options to process their grief.

The Rev. Leon G. Jarvis will be the program facilitator. Jarvis has 18 years experience with the dying and grief as the former chaplain at the hospital in Marquette. He is currently the AfterCare Coordinator at Fassbender-Swanson Funeral Homes in Marquette. He is a member of the Association for Death Education and Counseling and Certified in the Sacred Art of Dying.

The works of Alan Wolfelt, PhD, George Bonanno, PhD, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, MD and several others will be used during the grief program. It will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church in room 103 Tuesday, Aug. 14 and Aug. 21 and Sept. 11, Sept. 18 and Sept. 25.

Each session will begin at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. Each session will be complete within itself. Therefore, participants may attend one or as many sessions as they wish.
