Soprano Kukulis to perform

MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University’s music department will present soprano Hayley Kukulis of Marquette in her senior recital at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Reynolds Recital Hall. There is no cost to attend the performance.

Kukulis will perform a variety of music ranging from the baroque to modern periods. She will perform songs composed by Johann Sebastian Bach, Franz Schubert, John Jacob Niles and Johann Strauss II.

“Over the last four years I have been blessed to be surrounded with such wonderful faculty members,” said Kukulis. “The multitude of opportunities that have been available to me wouldn’t have been possible at any other institution. I am so grateful to my studio instructor Robert Engelhart for the unending faith and encouragement. He has given me the foundation to further grow and expand my art.”

Kukulis is a member of NMU’s University Choir and Arts Chorale. She has participated in an opera workshop, studied abroad in Austria and performed as part of the 2017 NMU European Choir Tour in Vienna, Austria and Krakow, Poland.

The concert features Nancy Redfern on piano, Samuel Holmberg on organ and Catherine Nevala and Paris Puuri on flute.

Kukulis will graduate this May with a bachelor’s degree in music and a minor in German. She plans to attend graduate school.
