Negaunee City Band to play show

NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee City Band will play its first free concert of the summer season at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.

This year the band will be under the direction of Sara Perfetti, who played piccolo in the band last summer. Before moving to Negaunee, Perfetti was the band/choir director at Lake Linden-Hubbell High School. She was involved in many other music organizations there both as a director and a performer and is now very active with the Peninsula Arts Appreciation Council.

Director Perfetti has chosen a concert for music lovers of all ages, with several numbers that will especially appeal to the young and the young at heart. These include “Highlights from Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins,” “Disney Movie Magic” and “Selections from Moana.”

A special treat will be members of Negaunee’s Lakeview School chorus leading the audience in singing Disney’s “It’s a Small World.” The march genre is represented with “March of the Toys” and “Star Wars — the Marches.” Other numbers are “The Elephant Tango,” “Old McDonald (and His Musical Farmyard)” and “Night on Bald Mountain.”

The concert will conclude with the traditional “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
