IRON MOUNTAIN — Get ready to be transported to the magical world of Harry Potter.

The Dickinson Area Community Foundation will present its sixth “Christmas in the Wizarding World” fundraiser on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27, at Pine Grove Country Club in Iron Mountain.

Doors to the one-of-a-kind “Harry Potter”-themed experience will open at 5:30 p.m. Guests will be served a wizard-inspired dinner at 7 p.m. each evening in the Great Hall.

“We have also added a children’s option to the menu this year,” said Dickinson Area Community Foundation Executive Director Tamara Juul, adding that dinner selections are made at the time of ticket purchase.

DACF has once again partnered with Evan Blagec, known professionally as “Mr. Black,” to produce the “Wizarding World” skit. “It is just phenomenal what he can do,” she said.

Because they have so many repeat guests, the theme and performances are changed each year.

Fans will be able to experience more magical surprises, including new attractions and characters.

“I can’t give away a spoiler, but this year things have taken a turn towards the dark side,” she added. “There are a couple of minor ‘scenes’ where drama occurs.”

Along with the Mr. Black team, members of the Dickinson County Community Theatre are among the more than two dozen actors who will pose as prominent characters from the popular book and movie series.

Those slated to attend include Sirius Black, Hermione Granger, Bellatrix LeStrange, Garrick Ollivander, Voldemort, Professors Snape, Albus Dumbledore, Sybill Trelawney, Minerva McGonagall, Pomona Sprout, Mrs. Flume, members of the Weasley and Dursley families and many more.

“They greet you from the moment you step through platform 9 3/4,” Juul said, adding the talented actors embrace their role and stay in character throughout the entire evening.

Attendees will receive a Marauder’s Map to guide on their scavenger hunt. They will visit many places from the stories, such as Hogwarts, The Leaky Cauldron, Honeydukes Candy Shop, Ollivander’s Wand Shop, and more.

There are also several classroom stations, such as potions, dark arts, and divinations.

“Come try on the sorting hat and find out your house placement,” she said.

While on their stroll, they will be able to make purchases that include chocolate frogs, Honeyduke’s lollypops and special treats by Dulce Nulla Gourmet Desserts. Ollivander’s will be fully stocked with wands, scarves, socks, key chains and several jewelry pieces.

“There are so many little details involved,” Juul said.

More than 20 special-themed raffle baskets will be given out each night, with winners announced at 7:45 p.m.

The guests also will take part in a trivia contest for the “House Cup.”

“It’s truly the most unique event in our community,” Juul said, with guests traveling from across the Upper Peninsula and Wisconsin.

Tickets are $65 and can be purchased on the DACF website at https://www.dickinsonareacommunityfoundation.org/events. Note that no tickets will be sold at the door. Juul advised those interested should purchase as soon as possible, as fewer than 50 tickets remain available on each night.

“The first year was one night; we sold out immediately,” Juul said. “With the demand for tickets and the labor-intensive task of turning PGCC into ‘Hogwarts,’ we have been doing two nights ever since.”

All funds raised support the Community Impact Grant Program. This fundraiser, along with the Fall Tailgate event, allows the foundation to award $20,000 to projects and programs in the community throughout the year.
