NEGAUNEE — The Negaunee Parks and Recreation Commission announced Wednesday that it has prepared a five-year recreation plan.

The city’s plan includes proposed projects to enhance Teal Lake, the development of trail connections between Negaunee and neighboring communities, as well as the creation of camping facilities.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources guidelines say that the intent of a community parks and recreation plan is to create a checklist of existing resources and facilities, while identifying community recreation needs and creating a plan for a five-year period to accomplish goals to fulfill those needs.

Information contained in the grant will be used to score grant applications.

“Communities without a plan cannot receive grants from the MDNR,” City Manager Nate Heffron, said.

A digital copy of the five-year plan can be found online at www.cityofnegaunee.com. Physical copies of the plan are available to be viewed at the Negaunee City Hall and the Negaunee Ice Arena.
