Esky Mayor Tall seeks reelection

ESCANABA — Escanaba Mayor Marc Tall has filed to run for another term on the city council.

“I have the desire, knowledge and experience needed for the job, and look forward to continuing to serve our community,” said Tall in a statement announcing his candidacy.

As mayor, Tall serves on the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority and the Delta County 911 Dispatch Authority. He said he intends to continue strengthening relationships with neighboring communities, pointing out his regular contact with the representatives from the Delta County Board, Wells Township Board, and the city of Gladstone.

In 1998, Tall was first elected to the council, and pointed to the renovation of the west-end of Ludington Street, the creation of the Whitetails Industrial Park, and repairs to the municipal dock as highlights of that time in office. His most recent tenure with the city began in 2013, when he was appointed to serve on the council. He was then elected to the position and reelected for a four-year term.

“The creation and expansion of the city-owned solar power project, the sale of the old power plant, the resurfacing of Ludington Street, and the addition of new businesses like Meijer and Aldi’s are projects of which I was proud to be a part,” said Tall.

In addition to his service on the city council, Tall also has served on the Escanaba Planning Commission and the Delta County Airport and Parks Board. After attending classes conducted by the Michigan Municipal League, Tall graduated from the MML’s Elected Officials Academy.

“We’ve all struggled these past couple of years learning to live with COVID-19. We’ve changed as a nation and as a community. In spite of the problem, the work of the city went on. The parks and city hall stayed open, garbage was picked up, streets were plowed, the lights stayed on, and the council meetings went from in-person to virtual and now back to in-person sessions again,” said Tall, adding the city council has worked with City Manager Patrick Jordan over the past four years on the renovations at the city water plant and expansions at the waste water plant, while continuing street repair.

“The city is in strong financial shape, and ready for the challenges of the future,” he said.

Outside of his responsibilities to the city, Tall is a past president and nearly 40-year member of the Escanaba Rotary Club, serves as president of the Remnants Barbershop Chorus, is active with the Delta County Chamber of Commerce’s Delta Force Leadership Academy, is elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Escanaba, and volunteers with the Community Thanksgiving Dinner.

Tall is a senior sales person with Radio Results Network. He and his wife Maggie reside on South 9th Street and have two daughters, Kathleen, of Rockford, Ill. and Amity, who, with her husband John and their two children, live near Ludington, Mich
