Cheers, it’s Oberon season

MARQUETTE — Here comes the sunshine — in a glass.

Oberon lovers can rejoice as it’s the time of year Bell’s Brewery releases the popular wheat ale, which warms the spirits of many as they’re reminded of sunnier days to come.

Arguably Bell’s Brewery’s most popular beer, Oberon is celebrated by thousands of people throughout the country, maybe even millions. Just look under the “events” tab on the brewery’s website and you’ll see Oberon release parties located in Michigan, Texas, Louisiana, New York, Colorado, Washington and more.

Made with only four ingredients, and without the use of any spices or fruit, Oberon is the color and scent of sunny afternoon, the Bell’s Brewery website states.

“My favorite thing with Oberon is when I get up north — sometime in the summer when I have some time off — and I wind up at some restaurant or bar that has it, and you get that perfect pint of Oberon and the sun is shining and the beer tastes fantastic … And that’s when I take my little moment and have some pride with Oberon, and (think) ‘Wow, this is delicious and it’s beautiful and it’s why I made this beer,'” Bell’s Founder and President Larry Bell said in a video.

Oberon can be purchased in 12-ounce bottles packaged in six-packs and 12-packs; 12-ounce cans packaged in 12-packs, 16-ounce cans packaged in four-packs and on tap at any carrying establishment on Monday.

According to the Bell’s website, several restaurants and bars in Marquette are throwing their own Oberon release parties, including:

≤ Aubree’s Pizzeria & Grill, at 227 W. Washington St., will be hosting a happy hour to celebrate “the return of summer” from 4-7 p.m. Friday.

≤ The Third Base Bar, at 726 N. Third St., will celebrate Oberon the day of its release, on Monday, from 3-7 p.m.

≤ Digs Gastropub, at 154 W. Washington St., will tap Oberon three different ways at midnight. Patrons can enjoy regular Oberon, Mango Habanero and Uberon. Mango Habanero Oberon Ale is brewed with the exact recipe as Oberon, except pureed mango and habanero peppers are added during fermentation. Uberon is a barrel-aged beer with strong whiskey characteristics that portray woody, vanilla and toffee flavors. The party and countdown at Digs will begin at 10 p.m. Sunday.
