Sleep medicine clinic opens

MARQUETTE — A sleep medicine clinic in Marquette is now available to Upper Peninsula residents.

“Levata, means ‘rest’ in the Finnish language and it can have a great impact on the quality of your life,” a press release about the new clinic states. “If you snore, have difficulty falling or staying asleep, wake up choking or out of breath, have daily fatigue, early morning headaches or restless sleep cycles, you could have sleep apnea.”

Millions of people in the United States are suffering through restless nights, sleep deprivation, low oxygenation, and headaches, without recognizing they have the disease. Sleep apnea disrupts your deep sleep cycle, making you feel tired and fatigued throughout the day.

Sleep apnea can also lead to high blood pressure, depression, headaches, ADHD symptoms, diabetes, stroke, ED, Alzheimer’s, and heart failure.

Dr. Anja Hoffstrom, DDS, has been in the dental field for over 8 years and her “passion for helping patients has led her to expand her scope of practice to help people who are suffering from sleep apnea,” offcials said in a press release.

Levata Sleep offers patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea, or who have failed a CPAP, the option of oral appliance therapy.

“By fitting you with a custom oral sleep appliance, Dr. Hoffstrom and her team can help improve your sleep, alertness and your overall health,” the press release states. “They will work with your medical insurance to help you start sleeping better.”

Levata Sleep is located at 1055 W. Fair Ave. in Marquette. To schedule a consultation, call the office at 906-242-2443. A grand opening event will be held Wednesday. Visit Levata Sleep’s Facebook page for more information.
