GINCC welcomes new communications, marketing assistant Corinna Peterson

Chamber Chat

Hi there! I’m Corinna Peterson and I’m taking on the exciting role of communications and marketing assistant at the Greater-Ishpeming Negaunee Chamber of Commerce.

I was (thankfully) born and raised in Michigan’s beautiful Upper Peninsula. Though it took me seven years, I finally made my way back to my Yooper roots around three years ago.

I couldn’t wait to get out of the U.P. and moved downstate for college. I graduated from Central Michigan University–FIRE UP CHIPS!– with a bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising and design, and a minor in journalism.

While at Central, I had the opportunity to intern in Vail, Colorado, Traverse City and even attend school at the Paris American Academy in Paris. After graduation, I moved across the country to Seattle, Washington.

In Seattle, I worked as a fashion stylist and finally started my transition into the business world as an account manager for a wholesale furniture manufacturer. The 30-hour distance between myself and my family, the insane traffic and longing for the U.P. made me decide to move back.

My background includes sales, project management, account management, marketing, public relations and event planning. I started my professional marketing and communications career at Michigan Works! as the marketing and communications manager.

During my time in the workforce development world, I focused on increasing economic prosperity, attracting new business and promoting skilled trades to build a talent pipeline for the entire Upper Peninsula.

I worked closely with local chambers of commerce, educational institutions, educational service agencies, intermediate school districts and many other community organizations. Some major events I helped plan and promote were “Lunch with the Governor” at the U.P. State Fair, the “Jacobetti Skills Challenge,” and “UP Professional Trades Day.”

I am very excited to bring my skills to the GINCC and really focus in on branding the West End of Marquette County and promoting all the unique features and business our area offers!

EDITOR’S NOTE: Corinna Peterson is the communications and marketing assistant at the GINCC. She currently resides in Marquette with her mini Australian shepherd, Lola. She enjoys reading, hiking, snowboarding, working out, traveling and trying out new vegetarian restaurants and recipes for her blog.
