UnPARALLELed senior care

Since February 2016 Parallel Home Care Services has been helping residents of Mill Creek Senior Living in Marquette and Teal Lake Senior Living in Negaunee with their home health care needs.

Miguel Purtee, Administrator of Parallel Home Care Services, said “We have enjoyed working within the senior living facilities these past few years and are excited about expanding into the community to work with clients of all ages in their homes.”

“The focus of our care is patient-oriented,” continued Purtee, “We make sure the patient is satisfied with the level of care, and the outcome of course.” Parallel offers a variety of assistance for patients returning home from the hospital after a medical illness, surgery, or fall. “There are numerous health issues people of all ages, but especially seniors face such as falls, difficulty in remembering to take medications, wound care needs, a decrease in strength or mobility, or specific disease related care that may warrant a referral. We welcome all calls asking about our services to determine if you or your loved one can benefit from home health” said Purtee.

Parallel offers skilled nursing care as well as a variety of therapies such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Home health care functions as a step down from the hospital, or a long-term facility for instance to return the patient to independence at home. “We also provide medication education and set up, IV infusion care, and feeding tube and catheter care to name a few of the services our nurses provide. Our nurses act as care coordinators to make sure everything is on schedule as it should be” said Purtee. “Parallel’s nurses are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist with any of our client’s needs.”

Parallel Home Care Services is a fully licensed and Medicare certified home health care agency meaning that Medicare recipients are completely covered with no out-of-pocket costs for all of their in-home care. Parallel is accredited through the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) program, a recognized leader in home health accreditation. “Parallel has chosen to go through this demanding accreditation process as a testament to our commitment to a defined set of internationally accepted standards” said Brad LaFave, Parallel’s Business Manager. “We wanted to ensure that our services remained among the best in home care” continued LaFave.

At present, Parallel has nurses working with clients out of the Marquette office, and another office servicing clients in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. Parallel nurses are able to meet with prospective patients in the hospital once the referral has been made. “Each one of our trained nurses and caregivers is carefully screened to ensure each patient’s safety and security. We recognize the trust you place in us to provide exceptional care and are proud of the skill, commitment, and compassion exhibited by our team on a daily basis” said LaFave. “We understand how critically important it is to find the right caregiver. Someone who not only has the best qualifications and experience, but also a caregiver who is compassionate and understanding towards the patient’s needs.”
