Dave Tadych honored by Wisconsin Grocers Association

IRON MOUNTAIN — The Wisconsin Grocers Association recently announced that it would recognize Dave Tadych, general manager for Tadych’s Econofoods, for his contributions to the grocery industry in Wisconsin with the Excellence in Operations Award. Tadych was nominated by Greg Cross of SpartanNash, Tadych’s supplier. The award was to be part of a surprise announcement on Tuesday at Tadych’s Econofoods, 1600 S. Stephenson Ave., Iron Mountain.

This is the 16th year the WGA has presented the Excellence in Operations Award. “The award is intended to recognize store owners, managers and store directors in the grocery industry who are on the front lines every day and instrumental in the success of their stores,” Brandon Scholz, president and CEO of the WGA, said in a press release.

Tadych has been the in the grocery business for over 50 years starting at his father’s store while in high school in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. In 1974, Dave joined his brother Jim as an assistant manager at T&C Market in Shawano, Wisconsin. He moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, to manage Tadych’s warehouse concept store, Sav-a Buck, in 1981. In 1985 he played a key role as operations manager while the company expanded into Michigan with the opening of the first Econofoods in Iron Mountain. The company now owns six locations, the last being purchased in Clintonville in 2001.

The company is locally owned and operated and committed to raising funds for local non-profit organizations. In fact, the company’s website has a “Tadych’s Community Care Program” brochure that shares ways to partner with Tadych’s to raise funds for organizations.

A formal award will be presented to Tadych on Oct. 2 at the Grocer’s Innovation Expo at the Kalahari Resort in Wisconsin Dells.
