TruNorth elects board president

ISHPEMING — TruNorth Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors recently elected Thomas Skrenes as board president following the retirement of Patricia Kroon in 2018.

In 1993, Skrenes was appointed assistant to the bishop of the ELCA Congregations in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northeastern Wisconsin and retired from that office in 2017. He also serves on the staff of the American Legion Boys State in Wisconsin. In his free time Skrenes enjoys singing in the Negaunee Male Chorus and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

TruNorth Federal Credit Union is cooperatively owned by over 16,000 local residents and was organized in 1949 to provide low-cost financial services to all owner/members.

LSCP to honor Plus One businesses

MARQUETTE — The Lakes Superior Community Partnership will host its Annual Meeting on March 12. It will take place in Jamrich Hall room 1100 on Northern Michigan University’s Campus from 3:45-5 p.m. There is no cost to attend and it is open to the public. During the meeting, businesses will be recognized for their participation in the Plus One program.

Michigan Works! and the LSCP’s Plus One program is designed around the premise that an employer adding just one employee contributes to the economic development in Marquette County. Since the inception of the program 11 years ago, Marquette County businesses have created 3,181 jobs.

“Businesses creating even just one position has a positive impact on our region. These businesses deserve the recognition because of the contribution they are making to economic development,” Mary VanTilburg, LSCP director of business development, said in a news release.

If your business added a full-time person in 2018, if you’d like to attend the meeting or for more information, contact Kennan Marana at kmarana@marquette.org or 906-226-6591 ext. 105.
