Vegan potluck dinner planned

MARQUETTE — The public is invited to join Northern Vegans for a vegan potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Feb. 11 in the Shiras Room on the second floor of the Peter White Public Library at 217 N. Front St., Marquette.

Bring a vegan dish (no meat, dairy, or honey) to share, or consider a donation to the group if unable to bring some vegan food. All are welcome, no RSVP required.

Book group set to meet

MARQUETTE — Tasty Reads, a book group for readers who like to cook, will focus on “Taste of Persia” by Naomi Duguid at noon Feb. 12 in the Peter White Public Library’s Shiras Room on the upper level.

Naomi Duguid’s latest cookbook not only provides numerous, beautifully illustrated recipes from this diverse part of the world which includes Iran, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Kurdistan, but it also relates stories of the people and the region.

Winner of the James Beard Award for Best Book of the Year, International (2017), it has also been recognized as the best cookbook of 2017 by The Boston Globe, Food & Wine, The Los Angeles Times, The New York Times, The New York Times Book Review, The San Francisco Chronicle, and USA.

Program at Audubon meeting

MARQUETTE — At 7 p.m. Feb. 13, the Laughing Whitefish Audubon Society will present a program called “Birding and Traveling in Papua New Guinea” by Jeff Knoop. In August of 2018, Jeff Knoop and three friends began a 25-day journey through Papua New Guinea, looking for birds from sea-level to 10,000 feet.

Join Jeff as he shares the scenery and amazing birds of this remote and exotic tropical island. This presentation will take place in the Community Room of the Peter White Public Library, Marquette.
