Exciting GINCC events set for November

The fun never ends in the West End. We have two unique events coming up that you won’t want to miss!

On Nov. 5 from 5-7 p.m., GINCC’s newest member, Phelps Square Apartments, will host an open house. Phelps Square Apartments is located at 700 E. North St. in Ishpeming. The community is welcome to come enjoy refreshments and appetizers while seeing the facility. There will also be a chance to win a prize! To enter to win, all you have to do is show up and enter your name. At 6 p.m., there will be a short presentation about the future of Phelps Square Apartments, and an opportunity for Q&A and open discussion afterwards. We are excited to welcome Phelps Square Apartments to the GINCC membership and to work with them in the future!

A couple days later on Nov. 7, the Greater Ishpeming Area Community Fund and Negaunee Area Community Fund will host a Business After Hours! This will be a very special Business After Hours event, too. They will be giving away a $3,000 grant to a lucky nonprofit organization. The fund committee chose six eligible nonprofits that will present proposals at the event and be put up to a vote. Everyone who attends the Business After Hours has the chance to vote with their dollars for who they want to win the grant. Each nonprofit will walk away with the dollars they receive for votes, but the proposal with the MOST votes (dollars) will receive the $3,000 grant! While this Business After Hours event is free, make sure to bring some cash so you can vote for your favorite nonprofit proposal. Even if the organization(s) you vote for do not win, they will get to keep the amount of money they raise by voting — so you’re still helping them! The nonprofits that will be presenting proposals are: UP Children’s Therapy for a summer therapy program, US Ski & Snowboard Hall of Fame and Museum for a children’s theater, Hiawatha Amateur Radio Association of Marquette County for an emergency communication trailer, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Marquette and Alger Counties for West End Defenders of Potential, PAAC/Historic Vista Theater for Vista Community Enrichment Strategic Plan, and Upper Peninsula Animal Welfare Shelter for Imagine the PAWsibilities Campaign for an animal community center — UPAWS Kids Club. With all these great proposals, it’s hard to choose who should get the $3,000 grant. The vote is in your hands, so come on out for this fun event — it’s open to the public! There will also be hors d’oeuvres by Midtown Bakery, and a cash bar by Cognition Brewery.

Looking ahead, make sure to mark your calendars for Dec. 12 for a Business After Hours with the Western Marquette County Health Foundation and the Lake Superior Community Partnership at Wawonowin Country Club from 5-7 p.m. More details to come!

From GINCC to you and your family, we hope you have a fun, safe and happy Halloween!
