Radiation oncologist joins UPHS

MARQUETTE – UP Health SystemMarquette has announced that James R. Baer, M.D. has joined its Cancer Care program as a radiation oncologist.

Baer joins UP Health System-Marquette from Buffalo, New York, where he held the position of director of radiation medicine at Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center and was an assistant professor of radiation oncology at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Baer previously held the positions of radiation oncologist at Mercy Cancer Center in Mason City, Iowa, and medical director and radiation oncologist at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.

According to a press release from UPHS, Baer brings extensive and specialized knowledge of Radiation Oncology to UP Health System-Marquette, including his experience in SRS, SBRT, IGRT and IMRT radiotherapy in the treatment of head and neck, lung, brain, prostate, breast, and abdominal tumors, CT/MRI/PET imaging of malignancies, a background in teaching and medical research, operational management experience, and experience in conducting clinical trials. Baer is board-certified by the American Board of Radiology.

The UP Health System-Marquette Cancer Care program is headed by Dr. Philip Lowry, clinical director of cancer care and medical oncologist and hematologist. As a Duke Health Affiliate, UP Health System-Marquette Cancer Care receives support from Duke Medicine, one of the leaders in cancer treatment in the United States. UP Health System-Marquette has both a program development affiliation as well as a research affiliation with Duke Medicine. As an affiliate of Duke Medicine, UP Health System-Marquette Cancer Care physicians have access to the latest research and treatment options from the Duke Cancer Institute to ensure that patients receive the safest, most advanced cancer services.
