New sleep specialist brought in by UPHS-Marquette

Michael Sand, DO

MARQUETTE — UP Health System has welcomed Michael Sand, DO, to its Respiratory and Sleep Medicine teams.

Dr. Sand diagnoses and treats sleep disorders–such as sleep apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy and restless leg syndrome–in adults and children ages four and older through a variety of sleep tests and studies.

He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL, before completing his residency training in family medicine at McLaren Macomb in Mount Clemens, MI, where he spent one year as chief resident. Dr. Sand then went on to complete his sleep medicine fellowship at the University of Michigan (Michigan Medicine) in Ann Arbor. Prior to joining UP Health System, he practiced sleep medicine and oversaw sleep clinic operations at Delta Health System in Greenville, MS, and South Central Regional Medical Center in Laurel, MS.

For millions of Americans, restful sleep doesn’t always come easily for a variety of reasons. But for some, there may be an underlying medical condition causing sleep disruptions that can be diagnosed and treated.

“Poor sleep and sleep disorders have been found to play a role in high blood pressure, heart disease, strokes, cognitive impairment and more,” said Dr. Sand. “Many people don’t connect the dots between the quality of their sleep and their overall health. Our team is here to help make those connections, and I look forward to helping my patients find solutions for more restful sleep and improved overall health and well-being.”
