Search on for antiques in U.P.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Are you a private antique collector in the U.P. ready to let some of that go? Perhaps you or someone you know has a barn or shed they’ve tossed vintage items into over the decades that’s now filled to bursting.

If so, the television show “American Pickers” wants to hear from you.

Mike Wolfe, Frank Fritz and their team from the History channel series plan to film an episode in Michigan in August.

The show now is scouting for likely sites that have sizeable, unique collections with, even better, interesting stories behind them.

“American Pickers” is a popular documentary series that follows Wolfe and Fritz through the world of antique “picking,” or hunting off the beaten path for valuable antiques, preferably hidden treasures of Americana they view as “rusty gold,” according to show producers.

The pair only pick private collections — no stores, malls, flea markets, museums, auctions, businesses or anything open to the public, show producers advised.

The pair hopes to give historically significant objects a new lease on life while learning about America’s past along the way. Wolfe’s business in LeClaire, Iowa, is called Antique Archaeology.

But they need leads on potential places to stop while in Michigan.

Anyone with a large, private collection or accumulation of antiques who is willing to let the Pickers spend a day taking a look should send name, phone number, location and description of the collection with photos to americanpickers@cineflix.com or call 855-OLD-RUST. Or go to the show’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AmericanPickers/

“American Pickers” is produced by Cineflix Productions for History. New episodes air at 9 p.m. Eastern time Mondays on History.
