To the Journal editor: On behalf of the Lake Superior Detachment 764 Marine Corps League, in conjunction with Toys For Tots, we would like to thank all the businesses, organizations, veterans groups and individuals in Marquette County that helped with our 2024 Toys Campaign. Without the community’s support, we would not be able to do what we are able to accomplish. We delivered toys to the Marquette, Negaunee and Gwinn St. Vincent dePaul Stores and the Ishpeming and Marquette Salvation Army, helping over 1,379 children in the county, collecting over 5,044 toys, stocking ...

To the Journal editor: Please entitle this “UP’s Golden Goose has Copper Feet”. If you need to shorten it, perhaps “UP’s Au Goose has Cu Feet”. The numbers in parentheses are my word count and may be removed. Gotta love those republican stooges squealing like piggies as they line up to feed at the mining industry’s money trough. Time, cash waster

To the Journal editor: The recent news of Michigan Department of the Transportation and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources planning to spend $584,000 on a statewide “Wildlife Crossing Study” seems to me to be a waste of money and time. Apparently, the focus will be on vehicle crash hotspots involving deer, bear, moose, elk and turkeys with the goal to reduce vehicle crashes and protect threatened wildlife species and with the study expected to last 3 years. With all of the Republican legislators lined up in a column on the front page of the Jan. 8 Mining Journal, it looked like someone just rang the come-and-get-it Highland Copper dinner bell. Disheartened by the withdrawal of support from Northnern Michigan University, the Republican legislators all tried to plead the case for allowing Copperwood Resources to establish a copper mine alongside Upper Peninsula’s Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park. To the Journal editor: I am writing in response to the front page news article titled “U.P. Legislators oppose NMU’s change of support of the Copperwood Mine Project.” I applaud Dr. Tessman and the Board of Trustees for removing their support from the mine project. Copperwood Resources, a local subsidiary of Highland Copper of Quebec, has zero on-paper mining experience. I repeat, Copperwood Resources has zero on-paper mining experience.
