Letters to the Editor: Block party a success

To the Journal editor:

The annual Silver Creek Neighborhood Block Party, held in conjunction with “National Night Out” is truly a community event.

This year 454 children received backpacks, school supplies and personal hygiene kits through this event! Over 100 volunteers helped make this year’s Block Party a success! We are thankful for the non-profit organizations that provided information and resources to those in attendance.

These groups included the Chocolay Township Police, who provided bike helmets; Care Clinic; RSVP and Triad; American Red Cross; Love; INC CUP; Northern Michigan University’s Educational Access Network; Head Start/Early Head Start; and Women’s Center and Superiorland Pet Partners.

We are also very grateful to the sponsors and supporters whose donations helped us make this day possible. We would especially like to thank Harvey Holiday Station; Look Realty and Steve Pelto; Community Foundation of Marquette County; Marquette West Rotary Foundation, McDonald’s of Harvey; Northern Michigan Bank; Range Bank; Shopko Foundation; Thomas Theatre Group; TOPS; and Marquette Exchange Club.

We are also thankful to Silver Creek Thrift for generously providing families with a coupon for three free outfits and a pair of shoes for each child.

Thank you to everyone who participated in making this year’s Silver Creek Neighborhood Block Party an overwhelming success!
