MARQUETTE — Northern Michigan University and Bay College have created a new 3+1 transfer pathway that makes it easier for students earning an associate degree in early childhood education to complete a bachelor’s degree in the same field, with the potential to add a birth-to-kindergarten teaching certificate.

Designed with flexibility in mind, the pathway combines virtual coursework with local student teaching and hands-on field experience, making it especially valuable for working adults already in the profession. The partnership lowers barriers and gives more students a realistic way to advance their credentials without stepping away from the communities where they already live and work.

It also helps answer a broader regional need for more trained early childhood educators in communities that cannot afford to lose talent.
